What is a category B+ license?
Category B+ is the type of driving licence that lets you to drive a vehicle that has either a semi-trailer or a trailer. The trailer and vehicle must have a maximum permissible mass (MAM1) that does not exceed 3,500kg, and the driver must be at minimum 18 years old to obtain this license. The Category B+ license is a great option for those who want to drive larger vehicles but do not want to take the Class A CDL test.
The requirements for a Category B+ license differ by state, but typically include having an uncommercial copyright as well as passing a medical test. Drivers who passed their car tests before January 1, 1997 and possess a category B license can drive a motorcar with a trailer as long the MAM1 (the total weight of the trailer and the vehicle) does not exceed 3,500kg. However they won't be allowed to drive a vehicle with trailer that falls within the subcategory C1+E or D1+E. They must pass the relevant driving tests in order to upgrade their licences to permit them to do so.
In some EEA Member States, drivers who have completed the category B driving test are exempt from having to pass the category BE driving test and are able to therefore tow trailers with the maximum authorized weight of up to 12,000 kilograms in their category B licence. This exemption is recorded on the registration certificate for the vehicle.
Class B CDL requirements differ from state to state however, they must have an excellent driving record and passing a physical test. You may also be required to undergo a training program which combines classroom learning with hands-on driving experience. What are the requirements for a B+ category license?
A category B+ driving licence is an excellent way to move up the ladder to commercial vehicle licensing. Although it doesn't come with as many endorsements as a Class A license however, it opens the door to many lucrative career opportunities. It also allows you to drive vehicles that aren't covered by a regular vehicle or truck (C) license.
To qualify for a category B+ copyright you must be 18 years old and have a clean criminal record, and pass a medical examination. Based on the type of work you're planning to perform there are specific requirements for certain types of vehicles. For example, if you want to drive interstate or transport hazardous materials, you'll need an endorsement specifically for your license.
A category B+ copyright is valid for 5 years, which is not the case with other driving licenses. You may be required to take additional medical tests or other tests in order to renew your copyright. Certain countries also require drivers to attend specific training before they are able to start driving certain types of vehicles.
The definition of a Category B+ vehicle is similar to that of a normal category B license. A category B+ vehicle is any large truck that has a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more but does not include a tractor/semi-trailer. This includes fire trucks that are large, cement mixers and delivery trucks. Typically, these trucks have the capacity to carry 85,000 pounds.
To get a category B+ driving licence you must pass a driving test for a vehicle in category B with a trailer whose maximum authorised mass is not greater than 3,500 kilograms. This is an obligation in Norway and EEA Member States, with the exception of Denmark.
If you pass the driver's test in a category-B vehicle prior to 19th January 2013, your licence will be automatically upgraded to include the full category B+E eligibility. However, you'll have to take a separate test in subcategories D1+E or C1+E in order to drive any vehicle larger than a category B vehicle. This includes vehicles that tow a vehicle or transport passengers.
Where can I obtain a category B+ license?
If you have an authorised category B license, you can drive motor vehicles that have the maximum mass authorized (MAM) of up to 3.5 tonnes. This includes small trailers up to 750kg. You can also drive a car and trailer combination that has an MAM up to 8,250 kg as long as the combined MAM does not exceed 12,000 kg.
You can add category B+ to your copyright after you have passed an exam for the type of vehicle you wish to drive. This can be done by completing form D2 and sending it to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). You can also have categories added to your licence automatically. For example If you pass the test for driving in a car you will be issued a full category C1+E licence. If you successfully pass the bus or coach driving test you will be issued a category E licence.

What is the cost of B+ category licenses?
